So I recently got my hand on this game and Fukua seemed like a character that interested me so I set the difficulty to sleepwalk and decided to try her story and I could not for a life of me beat it. However I first I was determined So I went to tutorial mode and after spending a bunch of time doing all the tutorial and picking up some new tricks. So again on sleepwalk difficulty I tried Fukua's story but again after about 5 hours it was just to diffucult and I started thinking "This is just the easiest difficulty" If I couldnt beat it after 5 hours of attempts what chance to I have to even become okay at this game. So Im wondering is there something thats just not clicking or should I give up?
EDIT: I FINALLY beat her and it feels good also apparently It auto defaults to the hardest difficultly so it certainly makes me feel a lot better about beating her and playing the game.
PS is the game supposed to crash because that means a cant save the recording of me beating her and I was very much looking forward to having it.

Fukua's story is a bit mean - the final boss uses Nightmare AI regardless of what you set the difficulty level to. Try going through Arcade or doing some other stories.

No, I don't know why it does that, or why this is never communicated to the player.

hmmm... something just might not be clicking. Then again you are playing Fukua's story mode where it is tricky in how it plays all of the characters in reverse order of when they were released.

here you ask for help. calling @Cadenza he can help you out on any Fukua troubles.

Well, to be honest, Filia as a boss in Fukua's story mode is a fair challenge, I think. Don't be so hard on yourself, though! Fighting games can be real hard to master, but they're quite satisfying when you do. Keep practicing and try to find different combos and strategies that match your style. Just like missingno said, tackle other challenges first, until you become even more acquainted with Fukua's mechanics.

Hi,

For fukua if you are having problems fighting filia. just spam command grab over and over again. filia apparently does not have the brain to even jump so she's free to that.

IF you do have any other grievances then feel free to contact me.

She also can't block H Shadow.

Wait It auto Defaults... to the hardest difficulty... why tho?

cause that's just how it is for the final boss. it's a challenge inside a joke character's story mode.

I say Joke cause Fukua was an April Fools surprise back in 2014, and she is made of two beta forms of Filia back in 2010 when there was just Filia in the pre-builds of the game and Mike needed a grappler and a zoner to test stuff out.

basically at the start of the round on the final boss it's okay to blow your meter on a super. either BFF or Blown Kiss.

For that fight even I had trouble. Eventually I found out the AI was really happy to air dash over me whenever I played defensive so I settled for baiting that out and punishing with an anti-air (fukua's launcher was doing the trick admirably while still allowing me to combo off it.)

Btw, are you steam or console? If you need someone to play some sets with, to show you a bit of the ropes, and to go easy on you enough so you learn, id be happy to help.
Be warned though, I push people really hard to improve (just ask poor Skodial).

I own both the PS4 and the Steam version because this game is cheap AF and I love it

Lore reason why it's that hard - because Filia is trying her hardest to defeat Fukua and it's her own dream.
Gameplay reason it's not communicated better - because I'm stupid and never thought to! It'd be pretty easy to put a palette effect on her, I'll see about doing that.

I made a guide on Tumblr about this:

What you need to know and do:

Filia’s moves do normal damage while Fukua’s moves do little damage: This is pretty much the thing that makes it hard for some players. You can block her attacks and attack her, but her IPS meter builds up easier.

Filia guards a lot: Another thing that makes it hard for some. For this you will have to do Forever a Clone H (that’s the attack where Fukua sends out one of her souls to karate chop her opponent it works on Filia like some sort of guard breaker. You can attack her when that lands. When Filia jumps in the air (she does that a lot), do Drill of My Dreams, because she doesn’t block in the air.

I should also mention that Filia’s Blockbuster Meter is maxed out while Fukua starts with one. She RARELY uses her Blockbusters, but it has happened a few times.

DDB also said that you could just land Fukua’s command grab on Filia when she guards.

I think it'd really be better to just scrap this altogether. Maybe she could be one level higher than the selected difficulty, but going straight to Nightmare when the player picked Sleepwalk is just mean.

I have no problem with mean, it's an the optionalest non-canonest story mode, in a fighting game. :^P
It's a decent point, though. KINDA.

Personally I think Boss Filia being being on Nightmare is fine, especially for such a simple Story Mode. It's like when you fought a secret character like Akuma or Reptile that was always gonna go ham on you no matter what.

Maybe Fukua's Story Mode should have just been locked until the other Base-characters' modes were completed though. I'm still surprised how many people seem to pick Fukua first, for some reason, and then draw their whole opinion of Story Mode based on that.

Not saying OP is doing that, but I've definitely seen other people that have.

hmmm still kinda wish there was a cut scene just before the Filia fight. Just to show the player that "This is it. the real fight now begins!" You know?

ah if Mike can show that Filia is more powerful than normal thru a palette change that's okay. If he changes it so the boss fight follows thru with the original difficulty that was set, that would be fine too.

hey look @TewLiter it's okay. It's not your fault getting beat at the last stage in Fukua's story mode. It is kinda unfair to new players like you. But hey look on the bright side, you've got people here wanting to help you out and improve your play style. We got your back.

I can live with mean I just would have like to have known was all ;) But yeah difficulty Is the only way we get better. the only reason I was getting discouraged was because I thought I was playing on the Easiest Difficulty.

i strongly suggest looking up how to "git gud." There's probably a lot you're missing as a new player on mechanics and such. Any game on hard even to a brand new player who's played a lot of fighting games won't be very good at it because they're not familiar.

Keep at it.

Are you guys not reading my earlier post? I want to help you.

Some kind of graphic effect to make it obvious that Fillia's super-strong would be nice. I had the same problem as OP. Not being able to beat her is one thing, but the feeling that you're just not good enough to even finish low difficulty story mode stuff in a fighting game... that can get to ya.

A dream that turns into a nightmare. Clever.

Uh, just hit her with the overhead shadows, she can't block those
